1964-1967 Chevelle Parts

In 1964 Chevrolet entered the midsize muscle car market with the introduction of the Chevelle Malibu Super Sport (SS) which was the high performance version of the Chevrolet Chevelle. Available in hardtop, Coupe and Convertible, engine options included 6 cylinders and the popular 327 V8. A limited edition 396 version of the Chevelle SS was offered the following year known as the Z-16 package. It featured a stouter convertible-type frame, beefed up suspension, anti-roll bars and faster power-assisted steering. Chevy eventually made the 396 engine standard in the SS but at only 325bhp. The 1966 Chevelle SS was renamed Chevelle SS396 to represent its standard 396 engine and separate model status. It was also redesigned to include a new roofline and two simulated scoops which would become a SS signature. As popularity grew Chevrolet Chevelle saw many improvements including drivability and a three speed automatic joined the already available three and four speed manuals and two speed automatics. Crisp styling, tractable engines and low prices made the Chevrolet Chevelle SS a good deal.
