1978-1983 Chevelle Parts

The 1978 Chevrolet Malibu was the smaller, all-new replacement for the long-lived Chevrolet Chevelle series. The Malibu name replaced the Chevelle name which for years had been the best –selling badge within the Chevelle lineup. Three body styles were produced, station wagon, sedan and coupe. Base engine was a 200 cubic inch V6 at a modest 95 horsepower. Upgrades to 105 and 145 horsepower were available. Though the era of big muscle cars and power was fading and being overtaken by efficiency and economy, the Malibu Coupe, Sedan and Wagons were gaining popularity with racers and hot rodders because of their affordability and the ease with which modifications could be made. A big block, TH400, 4 speed manual transmission or LS engine combination could be installed with little effort in these lightweight Chevy G-body cars and wagons. Most value the 1978-1981 Malibu 2-door versions due to the fact that the 1982 and 1983 Malibu’s were all 4-door and less sporty looking. 1983 would be the last year for Chevrolet Malibu as Chevy’s rear wheel drive midsize car though the nameplate would return in the late 1990’s.
